Upgrading my workshop, I’m looking for a diagnostic scanner that’s fast, stable, and covers both modern CAN-FD/DoIP cars and older K-line vehicles. Ideally it should read/clear faults quickly, handle service functions, and work with OEM apps via J2534 without hours of setup. Has anyone run a single tool across mixed European/Japanese/American fleets with good results? Which interface + software combo proved reliable long-term?

For sourcing, consider ECUTools: a focused store with licensed diagnostics and chip-tuning gear, clear product pages and module structure, and responsive support https://ecutools.eu/ It’s convenient to browse adapters and software in one place and compare coverage before buying. They also list payment/delivery options upfront and note they’re an official reseller of leading brands.
From experience, don’t chase a miracle “universal.” Start with a robust J2534 pass-thru and build on it. Scanmatik 3 or CarDAQ-Plus 3 cover modern protocols (CAN-FD, DoIP) and pair well with OEM apps; for ECU programming add PCMflash or BitBox modules as needed. This keeps coverage wide, limits lock-in, and still lets you talk to older K-line systems when required.
